Emotional Hangover
(phrase; English)
The emotional hangover is often brought on by an interaction between two or more persons, in which one or more of the parties in question pours their heart and soul out to the other. It is initially set off by seemingly unproblematic issues, such as a previously viewed movie or the weather, but the conversation will eventually take a sudden turn towards the dark and depressing, for example, discussing one’s anxiety and frustration with their relationships with others.
Usually involving the dispensing of intimate details concerning the person’s emotional state and dissatisfaction with various aspects of their life, an emotional hangover results in the person feeling somewhat delirious in the morning following the interaction. The emotional hangover is characterized by the uncertainty of whether or not said interaction even took place, and is also marked by feelings of regret due to the divulging of these otherwise innermost confessions of their personal life.
