  • The Following are Reasons Why Everything is Awesome Right… NOW.

    1) It’s sunny.

    2) I’m wearing shorts.

    3) I am currently enjoying a latte and free internet at a cafe around the corner from my apartment.

    4) I made a motherfucking omelette this morning.

    5) I ate it on my balcony.

    6) I listened to ‘Sons and Daughters’ by the Decemberists.

    7) I just received my schedule for my new (hopefully awesome) job.

    8) I’m almost done reading Ambivalence by Jonathan Garfinkel, an autobiographical novel about this Jewish guy/playwright trying to better understand the Israeli/Palestinian conflict after being raised in Jewish household and attending a Labour-Zionist high school.  I’m about to go to Israel on the Birthright program (long story short: all Jewish 18-26 year-olds have the opportunity to go on a free 10 day trip to Israel), and this book is probably the best thing that I could have stumbled upon before my departure.  I relate so much to this book I felt like I could have written it.  Forget about the eerie similarities of going to a high school of the same time (mine was in Montreal, his in Toronto), I, like Garfinkel, have felt and continue to feel some conflict and, well, ambivalence, when it comes to my faith and religious upbringing.

All I can say now is thank god (or whatever) I’m studying philosophy.  It is honestly amazingly therapeutic to attend my classes (regardless of how much I complain) or read entire books questioning whether or not lemons are yellow if we’re not looking at them… because it reminds me of the importance of asking questions, and being curious about the nature of the world.

    9) Did I already mention the omelette thing? Okay cool, just making sure.

TEN) OMG WAKE UP BY ARCADE FIRE JUST CAME ON IN THE CAFE AND THERE’S A FATHER WITH HIS SON AND HE’S BOUNCING HIS SON ON HIS KNEE AND SINGING ALONG TO HIM. I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BLOG AGAIN BECAUSE I JUST MELTED.
